Background:
I was a National Squad gymnast. Then a dancer. After tearing a knee ligament (ACL) in 1999 I was told I would never dance again. So I ignored that and found myself a new surgeon, who recommended I try pilates to prepare for and rehabilitate from my surgery. So I did. And it worked. So I teach it to others. That, and dancing rarely pays the bills (unless on a table or round a pole).
Years of training, rehearsals, performances and just living in a city have left their mark.
Practicing yoga & pilates allows me to: continue dancing and (largely) avoid pain
...and keep a sense of humour about things.
On a basic level they are tools to help you remain mobile, strong, active.
With practice you will learn to breathe deeper and move with more freedom and efficiency.
Go further and they can give you a much needed break from all the rubbish inside your head.
I don’t live in a hut on the top of a mountain contemplating the meaning of life.
I live in an overcrowded human zoo, eat mean, am fallible and regularly get very stressed indeed.
But I know from experience this stuff helps slough all that off. it works.
If you plan on using your body & your brain every day then you’d better take care of them, no?
